The Egg Test(s)

 The Egg Test

    Unfortunately, I do not have any eggs, and my roommates do not either. The Egg Test that we discussed briefly in class has an actual name, Oomancy. Oomancy is divination with eggs. Basically, you read and interpret the shape egg whites form after you drop egg whites into hot water. Oomancy was used in Ancient Greek and Roman societies as a way to read futures. The most common usage was to determine if someone was pregnant, and if so what the gender was. The color of the egg, texture, and shape also can determine outcomes of pregnancy, or someone's future in general. 

    Since I unfortunately can not do the egg test, I have decided to find out exactly how to do the egg test. The first step is to clear your mind and set your intentions. This is not a surprising step in egg diviniation because in order to interpret you must have a clear mind. Then, it is advised to simply crack the egg into glass of water and watch. You are supposed to observe the egg as it falls and draw what you see, while thinking of symbols in your life. Next, you look at the inside of the egg shell, to discover things about yourself internally, obviously. In an article I found, it says "the shell represents the body that contains all the magic inside of you." This is an interesting way to talk about an egg. Before reading about how to practice Oomancy or what it is, I did not think that the egg is a symbol of yourself. I thought the egg was just an egg and you used the egg to read your future. Not that the egg is what is controlling the reading of the future. 

    The final step is to interpret what you see and think about it in the context of your life. If I'm being honest, I probably would have no idea what to loom at. From the images I am seeing online, it just looks like a disformed egg. I watched a few TikTok videos of someone interpreting their egg. They referred to it as an egg cleanse, and said that the bubbles formed around the surface represent negative energy being removed. There are also specific cobwebs (portions of the egg whites) that can represent things like an evil eye, or confusion. There were also a handful of people that were reading other people's egg cleanses and determining whether or not they think they will get pregnant soon. It is definetly an interesting ritual and concept, not sure my thoughts on it but from the videos I watched, it seems like the reader is just interpreting random things.
